Water Meadows of The Parco Agricolo Sud

Milano

As it showed impossible to intervene on the water meadows of Cascina Linterno (3° census, 2006, twelfth most referred location with 1.134 votes), the Spring of St. Carlo in Albairate was chosen to symbolise the delicate system of water meadows and springs that for centuries has characterised the flatlands of Lombardy and that, today, risks to disappear. The recovery of the spring is ongoing and it entails the reactivation of the spring  through  hydraulic works, which will be followed by the clearing of the banks and by the final planting of indigenous trees and shrubs. The spring will then become a destination for school trips in cooperation with the Agricultural Museum “Angelo Masperi”, based in Albairate.

Colombaia Castle

Trapani
4th  census, 2008, most referred location with 7.053 votes

The first success of “Places I Love” was to draw attention to the process of recovery of the castle, which had been buried for years under the weight of bureaucracy, and to shake the situation out of this impasse. As a result, the obstacles that stood in the way of the Colombaia’s recuperation have been overcome: the castle is no longer listed as a national property, but now belongs to the Region of Sicily, which has allocated 600.000 Euros to ensure that the building’s safety is up to standard.

FAI and Intesa Sanpaolo will contribute to give new life to the Castle by organising, jointly with the Università degli Studi of Palermo, an international workshop to determine the future use and management of the Colombaia.
